Like most of us, Caroline has been receiving a flood of empty e-mails in the last few weeks as the Klez virus wreaks its havoc. She's noticed that the return address doesn't match the source and asks if the one hidden in the header is the actual source.
Sometimes it is, Caroline, but some variants of Klez handle things differently, so that address can also be bogus. If you do know the hidden sender, contact them and warn them they should run the Klez fix from Antivirus.com. It won't harm their machine, but will remove an infection if it exists. Machines running Outlook Express versions 5.5 and earlier are particularly susceptible to Klez, although most anti-virus programs have been aware of it since January this year.
David deleted a file called iexplore.exe and Internet Explorer died.
Here's how you retrieve the file, david. Place your Windows98 CD in your CD Rom Drive. Go to Start/Run. In the "Run" box, type: sfc. In the "System File Checker" window select "extract one file". Then type the filename box: Iexplore.exe. In the "extract file from" box type D:\win98. In "Restore location" type: c:\windows\system.
Eric has downloaded a file with the .zrf extension. "How do I make this work?" he asks.
It's a Zillions of Games file. You need to have "Zillions of Games" installed to be able to use it. More information at Zillions-of-games.com.
Geoff is totally bamboozled by two photos attached as php files to an e-mail.
It seems very strange that photos would be sent in that format, Geoff. Php is effectively a language all of its own - something used by high-tech web page creators. Ask the sender for a more common file format - most photos are attached as jpg.
Frankie has problems with Eudora Lite version 3.0.
Rather than fix a program that's about 6 years old now, try a free download of the latest offering (V5.1) which has all the latest features at Eudora.
Eric has found a site of of interest - multimap.com. "It's the most fantastic thing I have seen on the net. A New Zealand map site along these lines would be great."
There is such a site Eric - Mapzone - its well worth checking out.
