Jim has just bought a second-hand computer and my reply to him bounced back to me as no such address exists at his internet provider Xtra. Jim had rightly figured out that his e-mail software Outlook Express still thought its return address belonged to the old owner. But how to change it?
Easy. Start Outlook Express and click: Tools/Accounts. Select the Default account and press Properties. Look for the "e-mail address" line and type your e-mail address in there. Click OK and restart Outlook Express. Now all your mail will have your reply address.
John is tired of web page linked e-mails starting his dialup every time he opens Outlook 2000.
In Outlook click View/Previewpane. Now that Outlook isn't previewing the messages, it doesn't have to download the content until you open them. Not a bad precaution for those out there not using a virus checker - as it will also stop unsolicited high-risk e-mails opening automatically and give you the option of checking subject lines and deleting the stuff you don't want immediately.
Kay is frustrated with a floppy drive that complains that her factory formatted disks are not formatted.
First thing to do, Kay, is find a floppy that has information on it. Place it in the drive and open one of the files. If that fails, you'll need to replace the floppy drive (see your computer manufacturer). If it reads the disk, the problem may be that the drive can't understand the factory format on your disks. In My Computer, right click "A" drive and select Format. Now click on Full then Start. When it's done, you will be able to use that disk in your machine.
Thanks to Ken for suggesting Kiwi Club which he has used for free web hosting services for two years. The site requires a small Java banner on the web page which is not a pop-up.
We're still looking for a totally free hosting site with no banners. There must be one out there.
