Welcome to InBox, where we attempt to answer your internet questions.
Fred has an adult site popping up instead of his original home page. That's bad enough, but the pop-up windows are explicitly pornographic and embarrassing. So far, six mates have not been able to help.
Sometimes the most obvious solution can be the hardest to find, Fred. Go to Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Programs. Hit the Reset Web Settings button.
Bryan has problems running his Audio Galaxy Satellite (the software he uses to download music files). He continually gets a window saying his software versions are out of date.
Confirm Windows has the latest updates, Brian (Start/Windows Update). AG Satellite relies on several Windows components and will protest if they are outdated. Get the latest version of AGS from the Audio Galaxy Satellite website.
David vaguely recalls a previous inbox by Pete Sinclair that suggested setting a warning noise to alert users to Caps Lock being set.
In Windows XP you can enable a beep for Caps Lock in Control Panel/Accessibility Options/Keyboard. Place a tick beside Use Toggle Keys, then click Apply.
James would like to know if there is a Mac version of Zone Alarm available.
Unfortunately not, James. But try these: Norton Personal Firewall or an online Macintosh Firewall shop.
Sandra's internet connection risks her livelihood - she works on call - by tying up her phone line. What can she do?
You have four options, Sandra: Telecom Call Minder to take messages; Telecom Call Waiting that bumps you off the line after 10 rings; a second phone line; Jetstream fast access that shares the line with the telephone (costly to set up, but effective). Find out more at Telecom's wbsite.
