Q. The message "The APWCMD.DLL file is linked to the missing export file APWUTIL.DLL" appears when Terry boots his machine. He has just installed the latest version of Norton Antivirus. "It doesn't affect the computer," he says, "but how do I get rid of it?"
A. Use Symantec to find "apwcmd missing export". Symantec knows of this problem and is working on a complete solution. In the interim, the company suggests un-installing then re-installing Norton.

Q. "How can I turn off the built-in Windows XP support for Zip files?" Noel asks. "I prefer to use Winzip to deal with these compressed files, and the Windows version only confuses me."
A. Microsoft hasn't made it easy to turn this feature off, Noel, but here's a way and it is reversible. Go to Start/Run and type in regsvr32 /u%windir %\system32\zipfldr.dll. Restart the machine and the change will be immediate To re-enable the Zip support type: regsvr32 %windir%\system32\zipfldr.dll.

Q. "What is FVProtect.exe?" asks Eddie. "This program has appeared in my Windows XP Task manager Applications list, and my computer and internet connection seem to be working overtime. What does this program do and can I disable it?"
A. You are infected with the NetSky virus, Eddie. You should update your virus scanner and run it immediately. You can download a removal tool from Symantec. Search Symantec for "Netsky" and the resulting page contains a link to the removal tool.
If you are receiving annoying auto- response emails claiming you sent a version of the Netsky virus infection, ignore them. Most versions of NetSky falsify their source address when they propagate via email.
