"I have been given some photographs saved on disks of departed family members," writes Evelyn. "I would like to have prints made from them but I was told I must save them as jpeg files before taking them in. How do I do this?"
The simplest way is to use Paint, Windows' standard image program. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint and use File/Open to open a photograph file. Now save a copy with File/Save As, making sure you have chosen the jpg format from the list that appears next to "Save as type."

Win Kane is fairly happy with his new computer which operates under Windows Millennium, apart from just one thing. "I am unable to load one of my favourite games - Baldur's Gate, the five-CD version. Why is this and is there any fix? It works fine under Windows 98."
This sounds like a DirectX incompatibility problem. Windows Millennium is usually installed with DirectX version 8, but your Baldur's Gate game was written back in the dark days of version 4 or 5. You'll find a range of patches that might help to update the game at the Planet Baldur's Gate troubleshooting page.

"Are you aware of any web sites that give detailed maps of countries, cities, streets etc?" asks Dave.
Digital maps are rarely available free, especially if they are detailed. However you'll find a large selection of basic national, continental, and global maps at Graphicmaps.

Elizabeth Davies is having trouble importing a simple spreadsheet saved in Microsoft Works 4 into Excel 2000: "I haven't had a problem transferring word processor files to Word 2000."
Spreadsheets from other programs can usually be imported into Excel by using File/Open and choosing the format of the other file from the Files of Type list. But if this doesn't work, and you don't need to import calculations, try saving the Works spreadsheet as a text file first.
