Welcome to InBox, where we attempt to answer your internet questions.
* Several readers wanted a less drastic solution to the web browser address overload problem than Clear History suggested last week, which ditches the lot. Gillane asks what she should do if she wants to delete only three or four.
The answer is to click Favourites and then right-click (i.e. use the other mouse button) on an individual address. A pop up box appears, and if you now click on Delete (about nine entries down), the unwanted address will trouble you no more. Right-clicking often provides an easy route to otherwise hard-to-find features.
* Pam Yelseth complains that when her computer goes into sleep mode, it sometimes won't wake up again. This happens quite often - and always if left on at night. Do I have a problem, she asks, or is this quite a common occurrence?
Yes, it's quite a common occurrence and, yes, you may have a problem.
It would be helpful to know the make and model of the computer you are using, and I am guessing that you are using Windows - but is it 98 or Millennium?
Try setting your computer to never go on standby. This should fix the problem temporarily. But remember to switch the computer off at night to save power, and make sure you are running a screensaver.
Click on Start/Settings/Control Panel then click on Display Properties.
In the Display Properties box click on the Screen Saver tab.
On this panel you should see a Settings box to adjust your screen or monitor power settings. Click on this box and then choose Never as the standby time.
