Welcome to InBox, where we attempt to answer your internet questions.
* Sam McGredy says people keep sending him e-mail attachments ending with .pps. He can't open them and gets the message: "The file does not have a program associated with it for this action."
The .pps attachments are Microsoft Power Point Slideshow files, but you can easily open them with later versions of Internet Explorer or Netscape Communicator.
First double click on the attachment and save it to disk. Now launch Internet Explorer and use File/Open/Browse to open the .pps file.
* Keith Hamilton wants to know how to print out large website images - for example, maps that are larger than the monitor screen. In this case there are normally vertical and horizontal scroll bars to enable the entire map to be viewed but how can the whole map be printed out? Ordering up a print merely produces the top left-hand section of the map.
Most printer software includes settings to print a large image over a series of pages, a technique called tiling. It's worth checking your printer's help files for references to this. Alternatively, right click on the image and select Save Picture As to store the image file on disk. Now open the image with Start/Programs/Accessories/Paint (or any other image editor) and resize it with Image/Stretch-Skew to fit on to a single sheet paper.
* John suggests that the feedback problem with the HotTelephone free internet phone system we mentioned recently can be cured simply by using headphones. He has used the program to call friends in London, Switzerland and Sydney, but so far has been unable to call Canada or the United States. Thanks for your feedback, John.
* More of your InBox questions will be answered Wednesday in CyberLunch, on air 12:00-1:00 with Murray Lindsay and Peter Sinclair on Classic Hits 97FM.
