KEY POINTS:
Ihug customers are again suffering from unreliable email service.
Several ihug customers complained to herald.co.nz today expressing dissatisfaction with the ISP's ongoing mail problems.
Bruce Fuller of Te Kuiti described ihug as having "continuing email problems for almost three days".
A message board posting illustrated the effect that the regular email problems had on business customers.
"This is the 3rd major email problem ihug has inflicted on its long suffering customers in the past 7 months. In each case businesses such as ours have been severely disrupted through not being able to send or receive emails - sometimes for days at a time.
"We are now at the point where we will be setting up our own mail server, because we cannot do business without this vital communication channel.
"How is it possible that NZ's third largest ISP can continue to display this level of incompetence in providing core services?"
Even an email sent to ihug communications manager Annabel Gould was this afternoon met with a delivery failure message.
"Hi. This is the qmail-send program at ihug.co.nz.I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out."
Vodafone external communications manager Paul Brislen was approached for comment, but did not respond.
Ihug, purchased by Vodafone last year for $41 million, had massive problems with its mail system just one month after the company's sale.
Customer complaints ranged from delivery failures to the junk mail filter not working properly. The problems caused one customer to have 6559 spam emails land in his inbox overnight.
