Human error caused a major network crash at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment earlier this week, the ministry says.
A spokesman said the ministry was alerted to a problem affecting its internal server, which supports parts of the Science Skills and Innovation branch, and some external websites on Tuesday afternoon.
"The issue was created when an ICT service provider was carrying out some work and was the result of human error," the spokesman said.
"ICT staff were able to restore the external websites and internal server by the 8am the following day."
All data had been recovered and systems were now fully operational.
