PS3's exclusive Heavy Rain (R18) draws you in as few games have, and it's hard to know where between reality TV, the movies or a gaming experience it actually fits.
The gritty realism of the game involves four characters, starting with a father who has been hit by tragedy.
It's a dark murder mystery involving the sombre tale of the Origami psycho killer who kills young boys and earns his nickname from leaving paper origami animal shapes at the scene of the crime.
Choices float by on the screen and parents will find it close to reality at times in the decisions they have to make about their child.
Your actions determine whether the characters win or lose, live or die.
You are so drawn in, you care about the characters. The game feels slow, but then the unexpected can happen and you may have to think fast on your feet. This is so unusual, it almost feels as if it's not a game.
Certainly not a video game as we have known it. It's not entirely my kind of thing – but I admire the developers for approaching this in a novel way. Some of my mates are hooked and say it is so realistic.
Who knows, it may just be a taste of the new interactive gaming ahead. Here's the trailer.
