Pros: Bundled favourite Wii Sports featured tennis at a whole different level to this brand-spanking EA Sports title. Making use of the new, far more accurate Motion Plus controller add-on, play is far more accurate in Grand Slam Tennis, making for a more realistic experience. It's now
possible to apply top and back spin, and shots can be placed where you actually want them to go - with practise. Ball machine and training modes are recommended for newbies, as it is not exactly pick-up-and-win material. There are 23 players on the roster, including John McEnroe, the Williams sisters, Rafael Nadal and Bjorn Borg. But all players start with a zero skill rating until they've got the tricks to match the likes of Pete Sampras' five stars. Tournaments include Wimbledon, the French, Australian and US Opens. While graphics are typical Wii, there are nice touches like a pukka-sounding ball-hits-racket noise from the Wiimote as you play.
Cons: The control system of Grand Slam Tennis is its biggest let down - but only really for newbies. Timing of shots is key, and while when you get it right it works well, a reasonable amount effort has to be put in before the rewards come.
Verdict: If you're a serious tennis head, you'll find this is incredibly addictive - especially with the novelty to match up old campaigners with current players.
