KEY POINTS:
People love to Google themselves. But a project by German Markus Kison has taken web search vanity to a whole new level.
The prototype VanityRing displays the number of hits a person gets on the world's biggest search engine.
The rings are personalised with custom software, and once the name is added it will change its display to show 'attention carats'.
"The VanityRing doesn't have a jewel," writes Kison on his site, "instead it shows the number of hits one gets, when he searches Google for the name of the person who wears it, a more adequate value in our time."
Every night, the wearer can put the ring back into a docking station, where it is updated.
Kison says that since he got a bit of media attention, the number of hits on his name jumped from 700 to 40,000. A Google search for his name this afternoon netted 'about' 31,300 hits.
The university student says he's looking for someone to produce and market the VanityRing.
