Local system integrator gen-i has taken the number of desktops under its care to more than 25,000 by winning a contract with the Corrections Department.
It replaces multinational EDS (Electronic Data Systems), whose three-year contract expires at the end of the month.
Under the deal, gen-i takes over support of the department's 3000 workstations and 80 NT servers, which service 220 sites nationwide.
It already manages the department's Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS), which keeps track of all inmates and people serving community sentences.
Another firm, Sytec, takes over IT help desk services, some Microsoft applications and security. Sytec ran before the EDS outsourcing.
"We are very pleased to have re-established that role," said managing director Grant Smith.
Corrections IT manager Bob D'Ath said dividing the contract would give the department a better overview of its service providers.
