KEY POINTS:
Sci-fi geeks across the country have joined forces to get Sky TV to add a dedicated science fiction channel to its line-up.
A petition that was started last week has already had a massive 1115 signatures added.
And responses on nzherald.co.nz to Peter Griffin's tech blog on the subject has had a huge response.
Hardly surprising, as classics like Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Stargate and, of course, Star Trek (plus hundreds of others) all make a huge showing on illegal download sites - and they wouldn't be there if thousands of people didn't want them.
"With all the 'quality' TV shows like 'Stars in their Eyes' , 'CSI-blabla' I'm sure the uptake for the Sci-Fi channel would be pretty good. It would certainly save on the downloads!" wrote Tomtom from Point Chevalier.
Sirc from Remuera said "Glad to know I am not hte only male in this country who doesn't feel the urge to identify my self with thugby or a league team.
More sci fi on the telly would probably get me back to watching more television as opposed to waiting 6-18 months for the 'new season' to appear full of commercials."
And Eric Draven from Hobsonville summed it all up nicely:
"Sky would be shocked at the rise in subscribers if they picked up the Sci-FI channel," he wrote. "Wake up and see what is dominating the world in games and movies. People are starved in NZ for this and the tie is now to get on the band wagon."
