Computer maker Dell is recalling power adapters used with notebook personal computers, some of which are sold in this country, because of risks of fire and electrical shocks.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said the adapters could overheat, posing a risk of fire and electrical shock hazards to consumers.
Dell had received seven reports of incidents of adapters overheating, though no injuries had been reported, the commission said.
The recalled AC adapters had been used with some Dell Latitude, Precision, and Inspiron notebook-style personal computers
The recalled adapters had the words DELL and P/N 9364U, P/N 7832D or P/N 4983D printed on the back of the unit.
They had been sold with notebook computers through Dell's website from September 1998 through to February 2002, and also sold separately.
To determine whether their adapter was affected, consumers should go to the Dell help page.
Dell said customers in this country could also phone the company on 0800 941 140.
