Compaq has increased prices on Intel-based servers, storage products and PCs in the commercial range by up to 12 per cent because of the falling dollar.
Commercial personal computing group director Sue Leikis said the increases were effective immediately, although orders made by the close of business last Friday would be at the old price.
``The state of the weak New Zealand dollar against the US dollar, coupled with significant increases in the cost of some components, has meant we have had to increase our prices by between 8 and 12 per cent,'' she said.
``It's not a blanket percentage. We went through the range and tried to minimise the impact on our customers and business partners.''
Prices were affected not just by the exchange rate but by price changes for particular memory modules and processor units, which were influenced by worldwide demand.
Ms Leikis said the company held out for as long as it could, but ``the last fall in the exchange rate meant we had to take action.''
