Hot on the heels of former Carter Holt Harvey chief executive Chris Liddell taking the No 2 slot at International Paper as chief financial officer, CHH chief information officer Russell Jones is Memphis-bound as well.
Jones will join International Paper in May in the newly created role of IT director, planning and strategy.
He said no connection could be drawn between his appointment and that of Liddell, apart from reflecting on the quality of the New Zealand management team.
"They own 51 per cent of Carter Holt," Jones said. "They are a forest products company, and there are opportunities there for people from here."
Jones joined Carter Holt in 1996 after working for a European paper company, Sappi. He took hold of the company's SAP roll-out, bringing much of the work in-house.
That reduced costs and created a large SAP-skilled workforce which formed the basis of Oxygen, the IT services and outsourcing company Carter Holt created from its IT shared services division.
Jones said International Paper was coming to the end of a seven-year programme implementing SAP software, and now needed to consider what its IT environment should look like in the future.
