LONDON - A British computer consultant today pleaded guilty to being part of an international paedophile gang which spread images of child abuse over the Internet.
At the home of Gavin Seagers, 29, of Dartford, Kent, hundreds of indecent images were found during mass police raids as part of Operation Cathedral, the largest ever international police investigation into child pornography, in September 1998.
Mr Seagers pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court to conspiring with six others to distribute indecent images of children between November 1996 and September 1998.
Operation Cathedral led to the arrest of 100 members of an world wide Internet paedophile ring based across 13 countries.
Seagers will be sentenced with six other members of the gang at Kingston Crown Court on February 12 and 13 for circulating thousands of paedophile images on encoded websites.
