Twelve ATMs due to be developed could spell the end of using a card at ATM machines in Japan, as they are going biometric. Visitors to Ogaki Kyoritsu Bank - the first to employ the technology - will simply scan their hands, enter their birth date and pin number.

GOLDEN BRAIN SURGERY
Gold nanoparticles are currently being used in experimental brain surgery; brain tumours are incredibly difficult for surgeons to operate on, because very little normal brain tissue can be removed from around the tumour. These gold nanoparticles may be able to home in on tumour tissue making it easier to determine its boundaries.
