Auckland University of Technology has established a technology park on the site of the Fletcher Challenge complex in Penrose.
AUT's deputy vice-chancellor responsible for research and development, Professor Philip Sallis, said the park's core activities would be to house R&D projects with commercial applications. They include robotics, artificial intelligence, neural computing, mobile, biomedical and educational technologies.
The university had signed agreements with research associates in New Zealand and the United States and was negotiating more, he said.
Work on several projects has started. and a formal opening will take place later this year.
