Stratford trainer Tina Egan thought she would lose her handy winter galloper Royal Haze late last year when her owner sadly passed away after the horse had won two races on end.
The horse was raced by Summer Hazes owner Graham Bryant of Wanganui. "It was a really nice touch that the horse was able to win a couple of races before Graham passed away"said Egan. "I thought after that she'd be lost to the stable, however we managed to put a syndicate together including Graham's daughter-in-law to lease her and continue her racing career. She is lean, mean and kean and one tough cookie," said Egan.
"She is affectionately know around the stables as Maxi as she does everything at her her maximum from her work to eating! She has had one start on the Stratford track for a maiden win last August. I am hopeful she'll put in a good performance for her new owners on SRC Farmers Day Out June 27 but she might just need a bit of a helping hand from above," quipped Egan.
