Stratford New World Colts were away to Inglewood, while the rain had cleared underfoot conditions were very soft and greasy and there was a very strong wind.
The first half had us running with the wind which was coming across the field on an angle. It was 15 minutes of messy rugby before settling into more composed rugby, and were soon rewarded with a well worked try to Josh Perrett.
We continued to attack several times down the touch line but a bit of poor execution stopped us from getting over the line. Inglewood did bust our defence a few times which enabled them to get in our 22 but our defence was good enough to keep them out, they took a penalty shot but the strong wind stopped it from going over. We played better as the half continued with a good try to Ryan Merson after some good forward work in Inglewood's 22.
We were putting Inglewood under a lot of pressure and got over the line 3 other times in the first half but unfortunately they were all denied. With only one of the tries converted we went to the break with a 12-0 lead.
Inglewood started the second half strong and really came at us scoring a try in the first 5 minutes. The first time we got up inside Inglewood's half they gave away a penalty about 30 metres out which Josh Perrett kicked to give us a 15-5 lead. We didn't get many other opportunities in the second half and the few times we were inside their 22 we failed to convert it into any points. However Inglewood used the wind well and kept attacking. With our scrums going well and getting several tight heads when Inglewood were on attack, our defence was able to hold and we went on to win the game 15-5. Stand out players; Otis Floyd, Ben Phillips, Shade Mackay.
