Kaye Bourke takes her turn playing for the Modern Light trophy at Stratford Avon Bowls club on Saturday. A first year player, Kaye says that she has been enjoying the sport so far. Senior player Betty Lester says that the event went well, with the first and second year players all showing improvements throughout the matches. Betty says: "We try to encourage the new players to come out and to play a round so they can gain confidence". Bari Oliver, in her second year of playing, says that she joined in order to meet people in Stratford, having worked in New Plymouth for many years.
She finds the game an enjoyable challenge.
Kay Ryan, in her first year of playing, says that she has taken it up as "I had a spare afternoon in the week" and she tries to be fit. Kay adds that the members of the club are all "nice people" making it a pleasant way to spend time.
Bruce Gall was first at Stratford-Avon Bowling Club's Wednesday points competition, with Alice Gooch second and Don Smith third.
The Modernite Trophy for first and second year bowlers went to Brian Hardgrave, with Betty Brunton runner-up.
