Sue Stannard says everyone knows her at the TSB Pool as a lifeguard and swimming coach.
But, on Sunday, Sue donned a new hat as the pool's contractor and manager.
Sue was a lifeguard at the pool for five-and-a-half years under the former contractor, Gary Spittal and when the contract was up for renewal, she decided to tender for it, and won.
As contractor, she'll be doing a lot more, but she welcomed the challenge, and she's got a great staff of six to call on as well.
She's also an aerobics instructor, teaches 'learn to swim' and coaches the Silver Jets Swim Squad.
Pauline Rogers is on permanent part-time, Sonya Gernhoefer and Helen Ford part-time, two junior boys, Scott Cameron and Paul Dodunski and Sue's daughter Rhiannon.
"The boys are awesome, and Pauline, Rhiannon and I are the swimming instructors."
Sue taught Rhiannon, aged 14, to swim and over the years had been asked to teach other children as well 20 in total.
After they learned to swim the children would not go away, and so the squad was formed.
The squad became the Silver Jets, which Sue has taught for six years.
About half of the 6 to 14-year olds were competitive and swam at meets and carnivals, and some of the squad swam at Taranaki level.
The former competitive swimmer said she's passionate about swimming.
Sue said not many towns the size of Stratford have an indoor heated pool.
"We are so lucky to be able to swim all year round, with only Christmas Day and Good Friday the days we're closed."
And, Sue said, the pool's the best place to work in town.
Sue promotes people having fun, getting fit, and learning to be water safe and the pool was well used for structured swimming.
Sue would like to see more people use the pool, and with only two days a year that it's closed, there's more time for recreational swimming through the winter.
