JUST 18 months after purchasing Flowers & Flair in Inglewood, owner Jan McFayden has taken a business coup.
The florist and gift shop won the Specialty Store category at last Wednesday's TSB Bank 2008 Top Shop Awards.
Jan and her two staff, Shelly Avison and Nerida Halcombe, attended the awards as a girls night out, and they were ecstatic when Flowers and Flair was named as a winner.
"I was thrilled, absolutely thrilled. We put a lot of work into the business so it was nice to be recognised," she said.
Jan's winning business philosophy is simple good customer service and the complete shopping experience.
"We make sure that every customer is acknowledged and that they get the right kind of assistance. We like to think that we can read our customers needs and are able to offer them a broad range of products. We want everybody to walk out with a smile on their face." she said.
"At Flowers & Flair we are confident that a customer can walk in and whether they have $10 or $200, they will find something suited to their purpose. Every gift is wrapped and presented beautifully no matter what the price."
Another key to Flowers & Flair's success story is the specialty stock some is only found at the Inglewood store.
"We like to keep it fresh both in flowers and stock. We are always rotating what we have on offer. We rarely order in the same thing twice, unless it is really popular or a staple item. We wanted our gift range to go right through, from kitchenware to pillowslips. We manage to get a good balance in the store and aim to present it in an appealing way," said Jan.
Like any appreciative boss, Jan credits Flowers & Flair's recent award to working with good staff.
"I have amazing staff and we make a great team. The shop wouldn't function without them. Success comes from good teamwork," she said.
