EVERY thing was organised for the first-ever wild boar hunt in Whangamomona, except someone forgot to inform the weather gods to turn off the rain for the day. However, aside from the weather everything went well.
John, Pat and their team had the food for the hungry hunters under control. Walter and his team were keeping them hydrated in the bar.
The two Jacks (Jack Curtis and Jack Rawlinson) had the tough job of scrutineering the pigs before they went on the scales.
All 37 pigs presented were passed and weigh in by Rogi and Couchy with the help of Raymond and Clint.
Penny and Carolyn took down all the offical information and checked in all the hunters that arrived on the day.
By Wednesday, 169 hunters had entered the competition, with about 140 hunters braving the weather and coming along even though they hadn't managed to catch that elusive big boar they we chasing.
Taz was kept busy measuring goats heads for the children and pig tusks for the competition.
Cop was our MC on the day and did a top job informing everyone of what was going on.
Pork did a brilliant job of the spot prize draw. With 80 spot prizes to give out and making sure the right hunter got their prizes Pork had the help of Georga and Blair and what a top job they did.
Marco School had a barbecue running to feed any hungry supporters and on the day the hot sausages and hamburgers went down well.
Paul and Pudy did a great job keeping the youngsters entertain with possum and turking carrying competitions. This proved a big hit with everyone until the rain called a halt to this.
With the results all in and the rain still falling it was time to give out the big prizes. 1st heaviest boar at 189.28lbs was brought in by Justin Reed, 2nd heaviest boar at 185.92lbs brought in by Pork Hutchinson, 3rd 163.52lbs Ross Marshall, 4th 156.8 lbs Tim Herlihy, 5th 142.24lbs Maurice Peterson, 6th 136.64lbs David Hall.

With all the official side taken care off it was time for a bit of socialising and after shuting down the domain everyone head down to the Whanga Hotel for a big night of tall stories and a bit of Olympics and All Black rugby on the big screen.
Thanks to Geoff and Penny and their team Logan, Shona and Georga who were kept extremely busy during the night until the wee hours. At this point the Whangamomona Pig Hunting Club would like to thank all the locals who turned out on Saturday to set up, help out during the day with any jobs that needed doing, and the clean up on Sunday, many hands make light work and this showed over the weekend. And lastly to all the fantastic Sponsors. Thank you very much for all the products and donations, without you the day would not have been possible or so successful.
