STRATFORD'S newest motel, established in June 2009, has 23 luxury suites nestled beneath the majestic Mt Taranaki/Egmont.
It is conveniently located to shops, golf, speedway, 15km to the ski field and a light stroll to a great selection of quality cafes, restaurants and retail stores.
Owners David and Sue Kowalewski are originally dairy farmers and together with help from their family and friends decided to tackle a new challenge and that was to build a new motel for Stratford.
The couple enlisted the help of Mike Childs Builders to co-ordinate the project and early on the couple asked Mike to help think of concept designs and ideas.
David and Sue expressed to Mike that they would like to use as many local contractors as possible and only wanted quality construction.
Mike's experience, management and proven track record of building award-winning homes was more than enough assurance and gave the Kowalaewski's confidence that a great result would be produced.
"I was honoured to help David and Sue with this project – it was a big job, but I knew together we could do it. I have a great team of workers and the end results speak for themselves," said Mike.
Helping Mike is Carl Hine, Russell O'Keeffe, Reuben Lett (apprentice), Gavin Horton, Paul O'Keffe and his son Nick Childs (currently completing a pre-building course). Paul Kyle and Ollie McDonald (apprentice) are currently on sick leave.
Building such a large motel in Stratford was a great vision, which now nearly completed is a huge asset for the community. The motel now means tour buses, sporting teams, wedding groups and more can all be accommodated in the one place.
Amity Court Motel is a very well built beautiful motel, however the owners and builder Mike say it isn't over the top – its 'flashy yet functional'.
Mike said he would like to congratulate David and Sue for their vision.
"They have done a great community service. They decided to build a big motel and did it – the benefits for the town are tremendous, they have created an outstanding asset, which I'm sure will be well supported and a definite long-term investment."
Construction of the last remaining 11 suites at the rear of the motel will be completed by the end of August.
