Stratford District Council property asset manager Vicki Jagersma says that vandals have broken into the clock tower on Broadway overnight, causing damage and "interfering with the mechanics of the clock inner workings".
On her way to work this morning, Vicki says she noticed that the clock faces were all showing different, and incorrect, times, investigating further Vicki found evidence of a break in.
Police are currently at the scene collecting evidence including fingerprints, and Vicki says she is hopeful that they will be able to identify the offender(s) thanks to the video cameras installed in the area.
Saying she is "disappointed and saddened" by the actions causing willful damage to part of Stratford's heritage, Vicki adds that the glockenspiel has been a tourist attraction since 1999 and this is the first time that it has been targeted by vandals.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have information regarding the vandalism to contact them at the Stratford Police Station.
