The people of Taranaki gathered for services, picnics and ceremonies to commemorate 100 years of peace on Sunday.
Armistice Day was a time to remember those who served during World War I as well as the huge toll taken on the people of New Zealand. Around 100,000 New Zealanders served overseas during the war, and over 18,000 lost their lives.

In Eltham, more than 80 people gathered at the Eltham RSA Cemetery for a ceremony, the oldest aged 93. The ceremony included pipers, speeches and a wreath-laying ceremony.
The occasion was also marked at the Taranaki Pioneer Village's annual family fun day with a minute's silence at 11am. The day featured pony rides, a bouncy castle, market stalls, devonshire teas and live demonstrations. At the Egmont Settlers building, people could print their name onto a commemorative Armistice Day bookmark on the vintage printing machine.
