Numbers are the lowest they have ever been in Stratford's pipe band, with only two current band members, but Stratford's John Campbell wants to see it turned around.
The Scottish Society is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year so it's perfect timing to get your kilt on and pick up a bagpipe or a drum.
No experience is needed, says John, and having played since he was 10, he is the perfect tutor.
``It's no secret, we're struggling,'' says John.
He started playing the pipes in Eltham and continued when moving to Stratford in the late '60s.
``You meet people from all around the country and the world. I enjoy the fellowship you get out of it. You make a lot of friends.''
John says the band caters for all generations and you don't have to be of Scottish descent to play. Playing either the pipes or the drums is like any sport, you have to practise hard, he says.
Stratford Press reporter Jessie Waite walked into the Campbell house with her note pad and walked out with a practice chanter and a lesson book, so keep an eye out this Christmas, she might just be in the parade.

100TH ANNIVERSARY
This month, the Stratford and District Scottish Society celebrates its 100-year anniversary.
The celebrations will see bands from Hawera, New Plymouth and Eltham perform as well as highland dancing.
It's a perfect occasion to catch up with friends and learn more about the society. Whether you're a past or present member or would like more insight into the society, registrations for the day are still being taken.
It is being held on April 29.
If you would like to register your name, contact Joyce Orr on 762 8851.
