Primary school kids get warning about cyber safety

Hundreds of school children have been visited by the Central Taranaki Safe Community Trust as part of the Safe Friends luncheon.

The luncheon aims to raise awareness around cyber safety and cyber bullying and has so far visited Rawhitiroa, Avon, Kaponga, St Patrick's and Midhirst schools.

Community projects officer for the trust Hannah Shepherd says the project aims to reach more than 850 children in Years four to eight and Ngaere and Eltham schools are yet to be visited.

"It's been great to see the knowledge kids already hold regarding cyber and cyber bullying and what information they should share online."

Subway Stratford is the main sponsor of the programme, with the store providing morning or afternoon teas for each child.

The trust has also been handing out hi-visibility gear to walkers, joggers and cyclists for the Be Safe Be Seen 2018 campaign to help make the journey home safer during the dark winter months.

The trust has also been planning for its Mental Health and Suicide prevention in our Community Project. Hannah says the trust will host a day of activities on October 16.

Motivational speaker John Shackleton will also speak to high school students and a public event at the War Memorial Hall.
