Our hidden treasures

Stratford's hidden treasures, community hubs, unique features and positive people have been celebrated over the last four weeks with the Stratford Press Town Proud campaign.

Jessica Hughes, advertising manager for the Stratford Press, says she was blown away by the community response through the Town Proud campaign.

"The Stratford Press team has loved the feedback and direction from the community."

Jessica says a highlight of the Town Proud campaign was awarding the Town Proud awards to nominated members of the community. Quintin Hignett delivers the Stratford Press along Broadway each week with a big smile, and is a highlight to people's day. "Speaking to the shop keepers along Broadway about Quintin was heart warming.

"He is proud to be a part of this community," says Jessica.

Quintin was presented with a Stratford Press Town Proud award this week in front of his friends at IDEA Services, Sunflowers on Broadway.

Gordon 'Postie' Astwood, local electrician and handy man was also presented with a Stratford Press Town Proud award. "Gordy's reputation precedes him as he is very well known in Stratford for his selfless nature and community spirit."

Jessica says one thing has been clear throughout the campaign; it is the people in the community that make Stratford such a wonderful place to live.

"There is always a helping hand near by if you are in need."

Jessica adds it has also been a real privilege getting to discover hidden treasures in the area.

"Through Town Proud I got to experience the beauty of the Rotokare Lake Walk and the history at Taranaki Pioneer Village".

While the Stratford Press Town Proud campaign has come to an end Jessica says the team at the Stratford Press are always keen to hear what is going on in the community.

"Give the team a call if there is an exciting event going on or a special treasure that needs a spotlight".
