Damian Orr, 18, from Inglewood High School and Thomas Bell, 18, from Opunake High School, have been chosen from 12 other applicants to be awarded annual Shell Scholarships.
The aim of the scholarships is to assist Taranaki school leavers, who would benefit from mentoring and financial support, to study an energy-related degree at university. Each scholarship is worth $22,500 and is paid in three annual installments of $7500.
Head of engineering and projects at Shell NZ - and former student at Inglewood High School - Kerry Williamson was delighted to present the awards.
"This year's recipients have a keen interest in the energy industry and have a strongly developed sense of social and environmental responsibility, values that are crucial to Shell. We wish them well with their studies and look forward to supporting them on their journey," Kerry says.
Damian Orr was head boy at Inglewood High School last year and will study for a Bachelor of Science at Victoria University this year. He was involved in the school council and captained the school's first XV rugby team.
