Managing money was the topic for the day when Leanne Kane and Ally Campbell from Westpac Bank, came to visit students at Pembroke School last week.
Assistant bank manager Ally says this is the fourth year that they have run a Managing Your Money (MYM) session with the students. "The principal is really inviting and has given us amazing feedback."
The sessions are not Westpac specific, but look at how money works and how to look after it, as well as encouraging children to consider the difference between wants and needs.
This year, Ally and Leanne brought Nick Crosswell, a Chiefs player, as a guest presenter. "They were looking for one of the local players but couldn't find anyone smarter than me," joked the Manawatu-based player.
Students are given an example of a couple with a total income, and then work in groups to see how much money can be saved says Ally. "They take great pride in showing us and the rest of the class their result."
