Midhirst School students have debated their way to the top winning two out of three debates at a competition hosted by Toko School August 26.
Midhirst's Year 8 team won its debate as did the Year 7 (2) team, however the Year 7 (1) team was narrowly defeated by Ngaere School.
Pembroke, Ngaere, Toko, Midhirst, Rawhitiroa and Huiakama Schools participated in the debate competition arguing the discussion topic of 'zoos do more harm than good.'
Lily Upton-Hansen's (12) explains that her Year 8 team has a winning track record. "We've won three other competitions, I really love debating."
"It makes the competition easier when it's a topic you feel strongly about," says Hannah Saywell. ."
