Red Cross service centre administrator Mel Henshilwood says that with "so many people in need of the Meals on Wheels service, it is inspiring to see how many people are willing to give generously of their time and efforts to ensure the need is met".
Mel was speaking to a group of more than 80 guests who were enjoying an afternoon tea last Wednesday served at the Stratford War Memorial Centre as a thank you for their volunteer hours supporting Meals on Wheels.
Members from the Baptist Church, Central Taranaki Rural Women, Salvation Army, Stratford Lions, Catholic Mission Group, St Andrew's Church and Stratford Rotary were all present.
Mayor Neil Volzke told the group the same organisations and individual names come up "frequently" when it comes to volunteering, adding that Stratford always rates highly when it comes to the number of volunteer hours per head of capita in census information, "and that is because of the many wonderful people like yourselves who put in the effort".
