The Taranaki Vintage Machinery Club has just celebrated 25 years of existence, an impressive achievement for a club which was formed following the placement of a small advert in newspapers asking for "anyone interested in a club being formed for the restoration of vintage tractors and stationary motors" to come along to a meeting.
In 1988, the club started with 38 members, a number which has grown steadily to the current 62 members, some of whom were there when the club first started.
Current club president, Dave Hunger, says the club was formed because "back then, they were seeing train loads of old tractors going to salvage, and they realised they would be lost for ever".
"If you've done something up, you'll look after it," he adds, which possibly explains the popularity of the club.
