Breastcare nurses Gill Mockford and Jan Munro spent the day in Stratford last week as the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation road trip came to town.
With a pink, retro-themed caravan, they set up in Prospero Place, offering advice and education on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
"We have had so many come up and talk to us today, it shows that people want the information and are so happy to be able to access it." Gill says it wasn't just women who came to talk to them, but also men who wanted to educate themselves.
"Our key message is if you have a concern, check it out. Never leave it and never worry that you are wasting your GP's time." Jan says some people don't like to ask their doctor about symptoms, "because they don't want to seem silly".
"You can't be silly when it comes to your own health, getting checked really does save lives."
