This week we have received, and printed, a letter to the editor, complaining about our coverage of exercise Kiwi Koru in the area.

It is not the first time that I have received a complaint regarding the use of photographs with military weapons - a recent front cover photo of a teenager with a rifle also received a complaint.
Despite this, I chose to print pictures last week that included a couple of young children "having a go" at the army open day.
I do not make these decisions lightly, for every photo we choose to include in our paper, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of pictures we leave out. We simply don't have the space for them all, and we have to make choices.
Yes, I could have chosen to only use pictures that didn't have guns in them, but I didn't. I chose to include them because they depicted what happened. Just as much as the picture of a young girl having her face painted with camo paint, or the three young women sitting in an army truck. The letter writer refers to pictures on other pages too, including one of a retired J Force veteran who received a visit from some soldiers on his 90th birthday.
