The best crowd seen in many years was at Stratford Speedway for the Fireworks Spectacular and to see the Adult Ministocks contest their City of New Plymouth Classic.
The Adult Ministocks put on a great show with a close competition. Blair Uhlenberg (28s) won the title with 59 points, followed by Carol Podjursky (69s) and Josh Evershed (10s), who required a run-off for second and third finishing in that order.
Superstocks and Stockcars fielded 20 cars each to open their night but not all of them came through unscathed. These classes are fast paced, full contact and extremely competitive and never fail to disappoint the crowd. With side-by-side racing, hard hits and roll-overs featuring during the night, these two classes produced entertaining racing as always.
The drivers in the Stratford Scrappers who represent Stratford Speedway in Superstock Teams racing, were introduced to the crowd via a parade and a giant lolly scramble for the children.
The Saloon class opened the night with legend driver Blondie Chamberlain debuting Alan Hooper's (26s) TR8 for the season in race one. The last race for this supporting class had Richard Dreaver (7s) drive his car up on the wall in front of the grandstand. To the delight of the crowd, Richard drove off the wall and attempted to carry on until the damage to his car was deemed unsafe and he was sent to the infield.
