A woman has died after a ute rolled near the ski field car park on Mount Taranaki.
A police spokesperson says the 30-year-old woman suffered critical chest injuries when the ute rolled on to its side, crushing the victim underneath.
Witnesses report five people were in the vehicle at the time, three sitting on the flat deck of the ute and two in the cab.
Bystanders helped to get the woman out from underneath the ute and she was flown to Base hospital by rescue helicopter but died as a result of her injuries on route.
The Serious Crash Unit will be investigating the cause of the accident.
The woman's name will not be released until family members have been notified.
