Taranaki Pioneer Village held a family fun day on Sunday, and some visitors took the opportunity to dress in period costume and bring a picnic along.
Village events and education co-ordinator Leila-Maree Bunyan says that hosting fun days that appeal to the whole family "gives us an opportunity to remind people what a great resource they have on their doorstep. The village is a great place to come for a picnic, a stroll around the buildings and garden, see the working forge and of course enjoy a gentle train ride".
Craft days are run at the village every fourth Sunday of the month, offering the opportunity to be crafty the ways things used to be done. The village is also becoming a popular location for weddings.
