Don Oakes and Mike Oien have both seen friends battle prostrate cancer and it was motivation enough to participate in the Movember charity drive.
Why shouldn't men get behind this? There is too much of it (prostrate cancer) around and we need to help", says Don.
Don has had his moustache for "about 44 years now" but is willing to have it shaved off in the name of a good cause and so the New Commercial Hotel is hosting an auction of "Don's Mo" on November 30. As well as a variety of prizes on the night, Don says that they are offering "a free handle and a free haircut to anyone who raises above $50 and brings it in on the night".
Don's good friend Mike has been sporting a beard for 38 years and says that if "more than $1000 is raised I'll have it shaved off". "I've had three mates with this cancer in the last three years. It effects everyone," he says, and Don agrees, adding, "It doesn't take prisoners, young or old, anyone can be at risk".
To sponsor Don or Mike, or join in yourself, collect the forms from Don Oakes Motors, the New Commercial Hotel, Dads & Lads, Central Tyres, the Stratford Press or Stratford District Council.
