From using umbrellas to travel through the town, to a hotel which redecorates itself growing a chandelier like a new tooth, Nevermoor is a brilliantly imagined world that you want to visit. It could be described as being a Wundrous place in fact!
Just as Harry has Hermione and Ron, so this books heroine, Morrigan Crow, has her own friends, Hawthorne and Jack to accompany her on her adventures as well as Fenestra the cat. And there are plenty of adventures to be had. From being chased by zombies to riding a giant cat in a race, Morrigans life is certainly full of as much adventure as it is mystery.
Morrigan, believed to be a cursed child, escapes her fate - to die on Eventide - and her miserable family, after being rescued by the mysterious Jupiter North, who takes her to Nevermoor to try out for the mysterious and exclusive Wundrous Society.
She faces trials for the society as well as challenges from other potential members, some as unlikeable as the very worst of Slytherins in Harry Potter, all the while trying to work out just who she is, and exactly what her special gift might be. Morrigan is an excellent character whose story of self discovery keeps you glued to the pages, desperate to find out what happens next, while not really wanting the story to end.
This book is perfect for any reader who enjoyed the Harry Potter books or the Percy Jackson series, and will appeal to both boys and girls.
Jessica Townsend has created a wonderful new world in Nevermoor and I am desperate to return. Lets hope the sequel isnt too far away.
