Everything old new again

The students of E-Town Youth were able to let their imaginations run wild last week as they tried their hand at wearable arts.

As part of a school holiday programme E-Town held workshops for the students so that they could create pieces of wearable art for the upcoming Youth Style Fashion Creation Awards in Eltham next month.

Steffy MacKay, co-ordinator at E-Town, says the students had a fantastic time putting together their outfits. "As there are seven categories to enter there has been something for everyone to have a go with."

Steffy says the students were encouraged to bring old outfits in from home, "one of the most popular categories has been the Pimp the Olds' Clothes, and give something new life with crafty additions.

"Everyone has been working incredibly hard on their creations, it will be amazing to see them on stage at the show."

India-Rose Brown-Martin (11) has created a delicious-looking outfit to enter in the Kiwiana Green, Keeping it Mean section. "I have made a pavlova outfit with fruit decorations and at the competition want to wear my hair up like whipped cream to finish off the outfit."

Keegan Lozell (10) says he has had a fantastic time turning some old clothes of his parents into a full fireman's outfit, "I have had lots of fun learning to sew and decorate the clothes, I am really proud of what I have made and can't wait to enter it in the competition".
