The opening of Inglewood's highly anticipated mini-putt course has been postponed due to Covid-19 alert level changes.
Inglewood Mini Golf Charitable Trust chairman Graham Robinson says the course was set to open over the weekend.
"We had planned an official opening day for helpers, sponsors, funders, and supporters so theycould have the first look of the finished product. The course was to be open to the public on the Sunday."
The $400,000 project was announced in 2017. It is funded by a number of community groups, organisations and businesses.
Graham says the Inglewood Lions Club had the idea to provide something new and fun for the town.
"The trust was then formed to handle construction, fundraising and to run the complex."
He says the project is funded by a number of community groups, organisations and businesses.
"The Taranaki Electricity Trust gave us a total of $300,000 for the roof and the course. The New Zealand Lions Trust contributed $45,000 towards the course and kiosk. Taranaki Civil was a big contributor to the project by putting the metal down so we could start building and connecting our sewerage and stormwater free of charge. The building work, besides the roofing, was done by volunteers."
Graham says while it's disappointing that the opening has been put on hold, there are a few positives.
"Everything has been put on hold. It would have been nice for people to get in but it is what it is. The positive is we will be able to do the finishing touches on the course without the rush to get everything done. We want it to be picture perfect for the opening."
He says the course is good for Inglewood, and the Taranaki region.
"We've had a lot of interest from people. We get people ringing every few days for updates. People are excited to get in and play."
