A pair of soccer boots given to a child in need has led to the introduction of a new initiative in the Stratford Big Brothers Big Sisters programme.
Case manager for the Stratford programme Jo Patterson says that when Kim Hodson, a careers advisor at Stratford High School, heard of a child in need of soccer boots, she took in a spare pair of boots that she had at home.
Kim then spoke to Jo, asking if she could support the Big Brothers Big Sisters programme financially. This wasn't the first time Jo had come across people who wanted to support the programme but couldn't make a regular time commitment.
This led to "getting involved", a way for people to support the Stratford-based children of Big Brothers Big Sisters, helping them enjoy activities such as music, sports, Cubs, Brownies or art.
"Research shows that these sorts of activities are hugely beneficial for children, helping them develop into caring and productive members of society," says Jo.
