"It looks nice on the wall in the gallery," was the modest statement by budding artist Diana Yeates (14), when she and her peers from the high dependency unit at Stratford High School saw their Kidzshow entries on display at the Percy Thomson Gallery.
Diana's artwork received a Highly Commended award in the competition, which saw young artists from around the region submit their artwork for judging and display.
Diana says that she was inspired by the theme of "my place" and wanted her painting to reflect her Maori heritage.
"The colours and patterns I used do it," she says, adding that she drew her marae then added her grandmother to the painting "as I love her and she is important to me".
Diana and her classmates all enjoyed creating their artwork for the competition, and many were delighted to see "sold" stickers against their work when they visited the gallery.
