The winners of the Bernina Aotearoa Quilters Challenge were announced at the Percy Thomson Gallery on Sunday.
Paula Cole, convenor of the challenge, says "Percy Thomson is a fantastic opening venue for this travelling exhibition, and having the Taranaki Creative Fibre exhibition running at the same time makes it even better".
The 20 quilts on display were selected from entries from around the country. The design brief was simple, a 60cm wide by 120cm long quilt representing the theme "growth".
Quilts were judged by Dorothy Smith, a Stratford-based quilter, and John McLean, an artist from North Taranaki.
John says that while he was "quite nervous" about judging a quilting competition, "Dorothy was fantastic in sharing her technical knowledge and I learned a lot from the experience".
