While most mums were relaxing on Mother's Day morning a few of us decided to do something a little bit different. We participated in the annual Jennian Homes Fun Run/Walk. Held in 19 locations around the country, the annual event has been going since 2009 raising awareness and funds as part of the Heart Foundations "Go Red for Women"campaign. Being our first year my daughter Sam and I didn't know what to expect, but being well seasoned armchair athletes we were only a little daunted. In excess of 300 women turned out for the 5 km Taranaki event this morning at Pukekura Park, and, much to my relief they weren't all tanned, toned and gorgeous. Nope - most of them were just regular garden variety mums like me. The atmosphere was buzzing as we all headed off for our walk/run through the park. Women laughing, women chatting. Some running, but most walking. And all embracing the moment and the reason we were all there - women raising awareness and funds to fight heart disease.
It was magic.
